Maritza Cosano
Editor-in-Chief | Publisher

Maritza Cosano is a Cuban-born American journalist. Living and working in South Florida for 30+ years has enabled her to cultivate relationships with influential people, organizations, and brands throughout the region. She founded MAC-MAG, a digital magazine covering South Florida, a multicultural region with vibrant cities, creative and innovative people, and places and things we love. Major destinations on the East Coast include Miami, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Delray Beach, Boca Raton, Jupiter, and the Florida Keys, and on the Gulf Coast include Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Fort Myers, and Naples.
As a communications specialist, she also offers Creative Services, including writing, editing, editorial design, and newspaper and magazine publishing. Her company, Little Red Rocking Chair Publishing, offers book editing, ghostwriting, and manuscript evaluation services for self-publishing clients. With over 30 years of experience in writing, copyediting, and publishing, she now works with select clients and authors, using storytelling to tell their stories. Maritza specializes in helping both novice and experienced writers develop and refine their authorial voice.
As a born storyteller, Maritza believes in the power of the written word and stays current on writing trends. At the heart of every magazine article, web page, social media post, or novel, short story, play, movie, or TV script, stories are what she uses to move people. She loves to get the rhythm of good writing in her ears — cramming her head with characters and stories. As a writer, she never stops looking at the world, and never stops reading to find out what sense other people have made of it.
She is the author of the novels The Ghostwriters: In the Green Lot (2011) and The Ghostwriters: The Lost City (coming soon), and the children’s book collection The Adventures of Mikaela (2012). Her most recent novel, Brush of Evil, is slated for release this winter. Her television script, 90 Millas is Nothing, about a Cuban-born American journalist trying to find her way home, is being adapted to the stage.
After leaving Cuba at a young age, Maritza grew up in Madrid, Spain, and later moved to South Florida, where she graduated with a degree in English and Screenwriting from the University of Miami in 1991. She has worked as a newspaper reporter in South Florida, serving as a feature writer and columnist for the University of Miami Communications Department / Frost School of Music, Talent Times Magazine, South Florida Gold Coast Magazine, Boca Raton News, The Palm Beach Post, and WPB Magazine.
Now, as MAC-MAG's Editor-in-Chief, Maritza’s interviews with some of South Florida’s most dynamic and influential individuals, such as Gloria and Emilio Estefan, David Gilmore, and Former Mayor of West Palm Beach, Dr. Geraldine "Jeri" Muoio, or as people call her, "the strong mayor of West Palm Beach," set her apart from the rest in the industry. The local scene inspires her stories, as she believes "everybody has a story to tell."
Maritza uses her social media platform to encourage others to explore the writing life. She enjoys teaching the writing craft; her passion for writing and for seeing the potential in young journalists inspires her to continue mastering her own craft and to challenge others to keep the art of writing in print.
At home, work, or play, you can find her in South Florida, chasing a story.
